A week elapsed before Mr. Moosom intimated to the Acting Colonial Secretary that he wished to see me in reference to the letter which he had received.

Accordingly on the 10th Instant he waited on me at Government House, and in the presence of Mr. Cecil Smith a conversation took place, Memorandum of which I beg to enclose for Your Lordship's personal perusal.

Inclosure No. 2. 14 September 1872.

On the 11th Instant, Mr. Moosom handed in his resignation, a copy of which I enclose. This was laid before the Executive Council on the 18th Instant, and it was resolved that the resignation should be accepted from the date of the departure of the next English Mail, viz. the 28th Instant.

There were, however, many circumstances in Mr. Moosom's case which induced the Council to agree
